Mozart’s and Da Ponte’s “School for Lovers” has delighted, confounded, and rewarded viewers ever since its 1790 premiere in Vienna. Jenufa
A riveting conflict full of jealousy and vengeance leads to tragedy and eventually to the opera’s true theme—that the wounds of troubled lives can be assuaged through acceptance, forgiveness, and hope. Janáček’s music pulses with vibrant rhythms, pungent harmonies, and lyrical declamation in this new David Alden production starring Patricia Racette, Laura Wilde, Richard Smagur and Anexander Lewis.

Young and poor and consumed with love, six Bohemians lead taste the freedom and perils of Paris, and brave epidemics of passion and jealousy, sorrow, and loss. This beloved and beautiful opera stars Vanessa Vasquez, Kirsten MacKinnon, Mario Chang, Solomon Howard and Zachary Nelson.

DAY FIVE – THURSDAY, AUGUST 8, 2019
This evening we will depart for the Santa Fe Opera, where you will enjoy a Preview Buffet and the performance of The Pearl FishersMeals included: B, D

The Pearl Fishers
Before Bizet created Carmen, his first stage success is this love story set in ancient times on the shores of Ceylon, where Zurga, ruler of the pearl fishers, is reunited with his long-lost comrade Nadir. Their friendship duet, which recounts a mutual passion for the heavenly Leïla, is one of the most gorgeous operatic duets in history. Both men renounced her to save their friendship, but her unexpected return soon traps them again in the snares of love, and now they must make a choice. The cast includes Corinne Winters, Ilker Arcayürek, Anthony Clark Evans and Robert Pomakov.

DAY SIX – FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 2019
This evening we will depart for the Santa Fe Opera, where you will enjoy a Preview Buffet and the performance of The Thirteenth ChildMeals included: B, D

The Thirteenth Child
This world premiere fairy tale is a “down-to-the-wire” thriller, inspired by the Brothers Grimm. A paranoid king banishes his twelve sons in favor of Lyra, the thirteenth child. When Princess Lyra learns about her long-lost brothers, she embarks on a quest to find them. Like all the best fairy tales, it has an enchanted forest, riddles, a handsome prince, a horrible mistake, and a nearly impossible feat for Princess Lyra to perform if everything is to be put right. This marks the fifth opera by Poul Ruders, whose music has been hailed by The New York Times as “a riveting and kaleidoscopic.” Tamara Mumford, Joshua Dennis, Kirsten MacKinnon, Bradley Garvin and David Leigh star in this new production.

DAY SEVEN – SATURDAY, AUGUST 10, 2019
Enjoy a day devoted to the “other” Las Vegas - historic and picturesque Las Vegas, New Mexico - a city with a rich and vibrant past.  Las Vegas was once the principal town on the Santa Fe Trail, and its prominence is reflected in over 900 historic buildings in nine historic districts that are listed on the National Registry (more than any city in the U.S.). The well preserved, late 1800s architectural styles are an array of Victorian, Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Italianate, and Romanesque.  Upon arrival, enjoy a city driving tour and learn about the history of Las Vegas and some see some of the most famous buildings that make Las Vegas the city it is, steeped in history and still booming today. Next, enjoy a hosted lunch in Las Vegas before traveling on to the United World College for a guided tour of the campus.  UWC-USA is one of 14 UWC campuses located on five continents participating in a unique program that combines academic challenge with an experiential, hands-on approach to learning.

Return to Santa Fe for one final Preview Buffet at the Santa Fe Opera, followed by a recital by renowned American soprano Renée Fleming, who will be making her Santa Fe Opera debut. The Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, under the baton of Music Director Harry Bicket, collaborates with Ms. Fleming on Kevin Puts’ Letters From Georgia and Richard Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder (Four Last Songs). Meals included: B, L, D
