There is currently no cure for Alzheimer’s Disease – but there are ways to improve the quality of life for those living with the illness. In 2022, with strict COVID-19 safety protocols in place, Opera Saratoga will launch a new, engagement-centered music program developed for memory care communities in partnership with Songs by Heart. Through this program, professional singers lead 45-minute, interactive sing-alongs with piano accompaniment for individuals with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. The singers use techniques such as mirroring and verbal and gestural prompting throughout the program. Singers encourage residents to join in the singing of familiar songs, clapping, and dancing, as well as engaging in conversation centered around the musical selections.

This fall and winter, we are visiting Memory Care Communities to demonstrate how this program works firsthand. If you are interested in bringing this new program to your facility, please fill out the form below.

Thanks to generous support from The National Endowment for the Arts, OPERA America, the New York State Council on the Arts, and private donors, we will are able to offer this service highly subsidized, and on a sliding scale based on financial capacity, to ensure that we are able to serve as many Memory Care Communities as possible. At our demo sessions, you will not only have the opportunity to see the program in action, but we will also be able to learn more about how the program can become a regular part of the lives of the residents in your care.
